About the blog

I’ve been an artist for 20 years now, but I started this blog in October of 2005 while I was a caregiver for my mom. She had just left the hospital after suffering a stroke in August of that year. We were both still in the US at the time.

It was tough but I found that my laptop and the internet made a convenient escape for me. So I blogged as “Filipeanut” while my mom napped or watched TV. I wish I could have blogged more about the caregiving, but making rap songs and blog posts about my Filipino heritage seemed more therapeutic for me.

It was hard difficult for the both of us. I was her son and also her caregiver. In 2007, my aunts and I decided that she should be with them in the Philippines instead, in her beautiful home province of Bohol.

I maintained the blog to stay in touch with Philippine events and the interests I had in Filipino food and history. Eventually, in 2012, I made the move to live in the Philippines myself. That same year I updated the design of my website, once again with my mom by my side. This time in the Philippines in her ancestral home surrounded by family.

13 years after my mom’s stroke and starting this blog, my mom passed away on March 17, 2018. I continue to learn and write about my “Mother’s Land.” A few years later I was able to save up some money and purchase a new domain name and hosting provider. I moved this website to Filipeanut.art, which you are now reading from.

So that’s the basic gist of this blog, and about myself. If you like, please explore my current art and art shops below.
