Last week in Manila

Last week in Manila

The LRT and MRT, two of Manila’s railway systems, are my favorite ways of getting to and from places in Manila because of the views and air conditioning lol. But its P10-P15 pesos for one ride (US 0.25 cents), which can be quite expensive when taking multiple rides, everyday.

However nothing can beat the affordability of jeepneys, the “jeepney system” is far reaching, provides access to Manila’s smaller streets and districts, and practically never closes. A typical ride to a destination within the city can cost between P7-P10 pesos (US 0.15 cents).

This morning I went with my aunt to Divisoria, a huge market district just north of old Manila to look for supplies for the canteen she manages.

Fish crackers! 1 kilo of this stuff goes for P80 (US 2 dollars).

We were also able to find the bamboo shoot containers for a puto bumbong steamer I got for a friend (P250 or US 6 dollars). I thought it would have been difficult, but such things aren’t hard to find at Divisoria apparently. Thanks to my aunt and cousin who did the searching for me in fluent Tagalog. I also found out its even easier (and cheaper) to find them during the Christmas season when puto bumbong demand is at its highest lol.

Today may be my last day in Manila, but I have a few more photos to share from my trip. I’ll post them “stateside.” Maraming salamat Manila!
