Stickers & more by Filipino artists at Komiket

Stickers & more by Filipino artists at Komiket

Komiket is a large gathering of local artists of different genres and styles. I attended my first one at Centris in Quezon City a few years ago. It was there that I realized there were so many talented illustrators and artists, and I even got to talk and meet a few as well.

One of the special things about Komiket is that it is open to both new and veteran artists. From what I learned, it is quite affordable and easy to get a table and start selling art at the Komiket events. This allows people to find new up and coming artists, as well as to get autographs from more popular artists as well, all in the same place.

This year I made sure to attend my second Komiket, this time during the holiday season: Paskomiket 2022. This would be where I’d meet even more artists, and enjoy some of the art they made.

Loved this “Pusang Galactic” series of artwork by David Sysing. It features muscular and highly-detailed characters that upon closer inspection, were comic book villains portrayed as cats!

Tarsier hologram sticker by Abigail Gabriel

Tarsier in a “leaf globe” sticker by Abigail Gabriel

Not only did this tarsier catch my eye, but the sticker itself is also holographic. Loved how it was in a “snow globe”, but as Abigail mentioned to me, she opted for a “leaf globe” since there is no snow in the Philippines :).

“Sierra Madre” sticker by St. Ninotchka

Sierra Madre sticker by St. Ninotchka

St. Ninotchka’s themes and style have a classic and sometimes even a religious feel to them. But they’re also often juxtaposed with quirky messaging and even lightly sacrilegious content, which makes me love it even more.
